DR. SARAH COLBORNE

Dr. Sarah Colborne grew up right here in Kamloops, BC. She has always had a love of animals and knew she wanted to be a vet from a young age.
After completing three years of a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Victoria, Dr. Colborne took a year off to get more animal experience including working at a small animal practice and at the SPCA WildARC where she worked with wildlife species. She also volunteered at a petting zoo, a lambing farm, and worked with abused elephants and other zoo animals in Thailand.
She was then accepted to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) and spent the next four years in Saskatoon, SK. During her schooling, Dr. Colborne had the opportunity to volunteer through Global Vets where she went to Africa to provide large and small animal veterinary care to  communities in need in Zanzibar. She also worked with and learned from a wildlife vet in South Africa.
After graduating from WCVM, Dr. Colborne worked in the Kamloops area for a few years before joining the Neighbourhood Vet team. She has an immense passion for her job as it constantly brings new challenges and she loves creating relationships with her clients and their fur babies.

Some of her main areas of interest include:

  • Ultrasonography
Dr. Colborne loves performing ultrasound exams as it is a non-invasive way to help diagnose many diseases that can’t be seen with x-ray imaging alone. She has completed two ultrasound imaging courses through MiEducation in Ontario and looks forward to continuing her education and growing her skillset in this area.
  • Wellness and Preventative Medicine
Dr. Colborne loves discussing preventative care and wellness with her clients, covering anything from tick prevention to socialization in puppies and kittens.
  • Ophthalmology
Dr. Colborne developed an interest in ophthalmology after completing her ophthalmology courses and rotation in her final year of vet school. Although she is not a specialist in this field, she enjoys performing full ophthalmologic exams and basic surgeries. She looks forward to continuing her fundic examination skills.
  • Soft Tissue Surgery
Dr. Colborne enjoys routine surgeries like spays and neuters as well as lump removals, foreign body surgeries, and wound repairs. She will continue to  advance her surgical skills here at NVH.

In her free time, Dr. Colborne likes to spend time with her family and friends. She loves to explore the great outdoors with her partner, Kyle, and their dog, Remy. Some of her hobbies include dancing, hiking, camping, stand up paddle boarding, rock climbing, and snowboarding. She also loves travelling the world and experiencing new cultures.

Dr. Colborne is excited to be part of the downtown community at NVH and is looking forward to establishing strong relationships with her clients and patients.
