Dr. Calli Freeman (She/Her)

Dr. Calli Freedman grew up in Nepean, Ontario, which is now part of the nation’s capital city. Raised by healthcare providers, her parents instilled in her a passion for science and medicine. A total bookworm and nature enthusiast she has always been studious with an eagerness to learn. She has an impressive collection of National Geographic magazines and fangirls over nature documentaries, so it was no surprise to her friends and family when she chose to major in Zoology at university.

After completing her Bachelor of Science program at the University of Guelph, she went on to earn her Master of Science in Biology, with a research focus in Comparative Animal Physiology. She then attended the Ontario Veterinary College and earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. After a decade of studies, it was finally time to leave the University of Guelph.

Having spent her winters with skis or a snowboard strapped to her feet since she could walk, the mountains were calling her name. She moved to Kamloops with her partner to join the Neighbourhood Veterinary Hospital team and couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with such brilliant and likeminded individuals who share her sincere passion for providing high-quality healthcare to all species. She is looking forward to meeting all of NVH’s wonderful clients and their furry, feathered, and scaled companions over the coming months.

Linda, RVT

Linda was born and raised in a small town in the Fraser Valley. She grew up on a small dairy farm her parents owned, which helped her discover that she wanted to pursue a career in animal health. She graduated from the Animal Health Technology program at Thompson Rivers University in 2014, and has since permanently moved to Kamloops and worked as an RVT. Her interests in the veterinary clinic include rehabilitation and critical care. At home, she has an elderly Himalayan cat, Bilbo, and a young Border Collie mix, Janeway. Outside of work, Linda is kept busy making memories with her partner, young daughter and fur-children.

Terra, RVT

Terra worked previously with both of these amazing veterinarians, and is very happy to join them on the adventure of this new clinic. The focus of this practice aligns perfectly with her passions: animal care, family and community. After high school in Kamloops, Terra graduated from the Animal Health Technician program at Fairview College. She has been a practising registered AHT going on 20 years now! She worked a bit in the lower mainland, and spent a year in Australia (with time spent volunteering at the Crocodile Hunter’s Queensland zoo), but she always planned on settling in her hometown of Kamloops.

Most of her time outside of work is spent focused on her two amazing kids. Of course, they also have pets at home: currently two cats, Maui & Freckle. They’ve had many animals over the years, including some temporary ones while fostering for the SPCA and dog sitting.

She is also involved in community service, and has volunteered as leader with the Westsyde Girl Guiding units for the past 4 years. She is always looking for new ways to get involved in the community, and is happy that this will be a focus of this practice.

Sara, RVT

Sara graduated from the Animal Health Technology program at Thompson Rivers University in 2015 and has worked in Kamloops since as an RVT. She grew up in the Fraser Valley, but after attending university here decided to stay. Her interests in the veterinary clinic include, but are not limited to, surgery and anesthesia. She has two rescue cats, Boeing and Mr. Tutt, and a young Scottish Terrier mix, Cedric. Sara is kept busy outside of work exploring the outdoors with Cedric.

Robyn, RVT

Robyn is from Port Hardy, a small fishing town on the northern tip of Vancouver Island. She left to attend the T.R.U. Animal Health Technology program and graduated with honours in 2018. Her favourite part of veterinary medicine is canine rehabilitation and all the weird and wonderful things that can arise from fun surgical cases. She has a 2-year-old tortoiseshell cat named Penny and shares a love for all bully breed dogs. Her interests include hiking, snowboarding, crafting, enjoying all things outdoors and a good dad joke.

Shannon, RVT

Shannon graduated from the Animal Health Technology program at TRU in May 2022. She is originally from Saskatchewan and moved to Kamloops in 2016. She loves everything outdoors and spends her time exploring this beautiful province. When she’s not at work you can find her running, hiking, biking, and swimming. She lives with her 10-year-old Husky mix, Azul, who loves to join in on all of Shannon’s adventures.

She knew from a young age that she wanted to work in the Veterinary field. As her knowledge and experience has grown, she has found that her main interests include surgery and anesthesia, as well as behavior. Shannon did a three-week practicum at NVH during her schooling, and instantly fell in love with the workplace environment, support, and work-life balance that we value, and happily accepted a position after graduating. We are so happy she decided to join our family.

Sarah, Kennel Attendant

My name is Sarah! (There’s a few of us Sarah’s here…). I was born and raised in Kamloops, and I’ve always loved spending time working with animals. My experience includes volunteering with rescues, as well as working in clinical settings. I’ve got two boys of my own, both are handsome cats named Benny & Theo! They are the best of buddies. Biking, gardening, crocheting and art are just a few of my hobbies I enjoy in my free time. I look forward to comforting your fur babies and assisting in nursing them back to health!

JOLINE, Receptionist and Veterinary Assistant

Joline moved to Kamloops in September of 2019, bringing 12 years of experience from her previous clinic. She completed her Veterinary Medical Assistant certification from NAIT in 2007.
When she is not at work, Joline can be found reading, crafting or spending time with her husband. They both have a passion for the outdoors and living an active lifestyle, so most free time is spent camping, hiking, mushroom foraging and travelling.
Joline is excited to be a part of the Neighbourhood team and is happy to be providing friendly and helpful service to our wonderful clients and their fur babies.

Claire, Receptionist and Veterinary Assistant

Claire works part-time as one of NVH’s receptionists. She is currently enrolled as a nursing student at Thompson Rivers University. Her favourite part about working in a veterinary clinic is greeting all your pets with a treat and making sure that they have a positive experience during their visit. When she is not working, or at school, Claire is spending time with her 3 dogs and 2 cats. She has a Chihuahua named Sophie, a Pomeranian named Gia and a Bull Terrier mix named Mali. Her two kitties are Harbour and Bug. Her favourite dog breed is a Great Dane ever since she had her dog Ozzie. Because of him, she fell in love with the breed. Claire’s hobbies include fostering for local pet rescues and attending spin classes at KSPIN cycling studio in downtown Kamloops.

MIKAELA, Receptionist

Mikaela was born and raised in Kamloops. Her greatest passion is helping others, whether it is people or animals. Mikaela has worked in the customer service industry for over 10 years, and in a patient-based environment for 7 of those 10 years. She comes to our team with an abundance of experience as a medical receptionist, and we are so excited she has decided to join us.

Mikaela works very closely with a small local dog rescue, where she fosters dogs and helps to find their forever homes, saving them from high-kill shelters. She fosters over 5 dogs each year! Her and her partner do not currently have fur-babies of their own, as the fostering keeps them quite busy, but she hopes to one day have an acreage where she can start up a “Golden Days Retirement Rescue” for senior dogs, and to provide a home for goats, chickens, and maybe an alpaca or two!
When she is not at work, Mikaela and her partner Ty like to spend time tending their garden, baking, going on road trips and going camping, as well as hitting the water for some kayaking. They try and find a tiny new adventure every weekend!

NATHALIE, Veterinary Assistant

Nathalie works part-time at NVH as a veterinary assistant. She was born and raised in a small town in northern Alberta. She moved to B.C. to attend the Veterinary Technician Assistant program at Granville College in Vancouver where she graduated in 2019. Nathalie is currently enrolled at T.R.U. doing her Pre-Veterinary Medicine and hopes to one day become a veterinarian. Her interests in the veterinary clinic are surgery, exotic animal medicine and senior pet care. She currently has a senior rescue staffordshire terrier mix named Sophie. Outside of work and school Nathalie enjoys reading, camping, hiking and exploring the Kamloops area.

BROOKLYNN, Veterinary Assistant

Brooklynn is a full-time Veterinary Assistant here at NVH. Her family has always been outdoorsy and she feels most at home when she’s rock climbing, hunting, fishing, and picking fresh fruit and mushrooms from the forest that surrounds her home just west of Kamloops. She’s always loved animals, but has recently decided to take the steps to making animals her career, with hopes of enrolling in the Animal Health and Technology program here at TRU this coming year. Her interests in the veterinary profession include reptile and amphibian practices, and she quite enjoys observing and lending Dr. Helmers a hand when she can with the reptiles we’re fortunate enough to tend to here at the clinic. At home, she’s constantly researching ways to improve her ball python husbandry to provide her snake, Venus, with the best possible life she can as well as browsing other reptiles’ care requirements in hopes of keeping more in the future.
We are very happy to have Brooklynn here with us at NVH!

KIM, Veterinary Assistant

Kim has been working in the veterinary field for over 30 years and is such a great asset here at NVH. Although Kim’s title is Veterinary Assistant, she can be found helping anywhere in the clinic. One of Kim’s greatest skills is her attention to detail and patient care. Kim is always making sure that our patients are well taken care of while in our hospital and isn’t afraid to hand out a few extra chin scratches! Kim is an avid animal lover herself and shares her home with a few cats, a turtle and a budgie.

Kim is camera shy, so Dr. Helmer’s kitty Daphne is stepping in for her!

KAHLIA, Veterinary Assistant

Hi my name is Kahlia and I am a recently graduated VA!
I have spent most of my life in Kamloops living on a hobby farm. I travelled down to the Fraser Valley to pursue the Veterinary Assistant Program. Since then, I’ve been eager to move back home to start my career. My special interests that I’ve discovered in the veterinary field include pet nutrition, and practicing and educating clients about Fear Free techniques. I have also recently completed Level 3 Fear Free Certification. I want to take my career further and plan to take the Veterinary Technician course at TRU in the future. At home I have 2 horses(Holly and Aspen), a miniature goat (Phoebe), and 3 barn cats(Pekoe, Earl, and Chai). Outside of work you can find me baking up a storm, swimming at the lake, beaches or pool, shopping at lululemon, and horseback riding.
